According to the researchers, it is said that inactive people shall be 10 years older biologically than active people.
Researchers find it by measuring the telomeres which are present in the white blood cells of more than 2400 twin. Most of the twins they have selected for the research are women. Telomeres are sequences of DNA which acts as the caps to keep the sticky ends of chromosomes from randomly clumping together. It protects chromosomes, strands of DNA which carry genes, from degrading.
When a cell divides, the telomeres will be deteriorated. Shorter telomeres are considered as the sign of aging. Researchers considered both active twins who are having half an hour of activity a day and twins who are having just two minutes of activity a day. After the research, it is found that the active twins have longer telomeres than the twins who were least active.
Researchers are not aware of how exercise guards telomeres from erosion. Other studies in this field suggest that activity helps to limit the inflammation and oxidative stress. Both inflammation and oxidative stress may result in shortening the telomere length.
It is better to do any exercise than to sit idle. Let’s get started!
