I would like to pen down my most refreshing experience till date with the fasting programme which I undertook in Opatija, Croatia. Caught in a web of a killing chronic cardiovascular disease I had lost all my hope of getting back on my foot but this programme proved to be a blessing in disguise .Being a complete foodie it was initially extremely difficult for me to restrict myself from the luscious food, but the ever supporting staff and their superbly crafted fasting programme made my will stronger and helped tremendously in maintaining a balanced combination of good health and above all a healthy heart in process.
I am extremely happy and contend today and I would strongly recommend this programme to all those who are looking for new lease of life.

It has been reported that dietary
energy restriction, including intermittent fasting (IF), can protect heart and
brain cells against injury and improve functional outcome in animal models of
myocardial infarction (MI) and stroke. Here we report that IF improves glycemic
control and protects the myocardium against ischemia-induced cell damage and
inflammation in rats. Echocardiographic analysis of heart structural and
functional variables revealed that IF attenuates the growth-related increase in
posterior ventricular wall thickness, end systolic and diastolic volumes, and
reduces the ejection fraction. The size of the ischemic infarct 24 h following
permanent ligation of a coronary artery was significantly smaller, and markers
of inflammation (infiltration of leukocytes in the area at risk and plasma IL-6
levels) were less, in IF rats compared to rats on the control diet. IF resulted
in increased levels of circulating adiponectin prior to and after MI. Because
recent studies have shown that adiponectin can protect the heart against
ischemic injury, our findings suggest a potential role for adiponectin as a
mediator of the cardioprotective effect of IF.

What is a CR Mimetic?
A CR (Calorie Restriction) mimetic may -- if successful -- enable organisms to derive many of the health and life-extending benefits seen in calorie-restricted diets. This may, then, allow the organism to "eat normally" and enjoy a longevous lifespan. The efficacy of such compounds would, upon safe and successful testing in animal subjects, pave the way for substantial increases in human lifespan.
How does a CR Mimetic work?
Ingram believes that targeting glycolysis is the most efficient CR mimetic strategy because it directly affects the product ion of insulin.
Is there any molecular and/or empirical evidence? And what compounds have currently been identified as potential CR mimetics?
The Major Players:
2-DG (2-deoxy-D-glucose) 2DG does not block nutrient absorption, but throws a wrench in glycolysis, 'starving' the cell for fuel even as you digest all of your food.(9). Threshold Pharmaceuticals claims they are "conducting a Phase 1 trial of daily 2DG as a single agent and in combination with Taxotere to evaluate the safety, pharmacokinetics and maximum tolerated dose in patients with solid tumors. We plan to also conduct a Phase 1 trial of single doses of 2DG to evaluate its effect on prostate metabolism. We are developing 2DG based on its specificity for targeting tumor cells and extensive human safety data, as well as recently demonstrated animal efficacy that we and our collaborators at the University of Miami published
in Cancer Research in January 2004.

I would like to share my very positive experience with the fasting program I have taken in Opatija, Croatia. I lost around 4-5 kg during my stay there. At the beginning it was really hard to restrict myself from eating snacks and chocolate - I confess I have a very weak will and could never do this myself - but the careful directions of the program staff, trainers, dietologiests and other qualified people and a very intense program have helped me. I had a very balanced combination of fasting - jogging - walking - eating (healthy food!!!!), swimming....and a lot of sightseeing as Opatija has the longest tradition of tourism in Croatia!
I would recommend everybody who similarly to me cannot fast on his/her own - go to Opatija and you will feel how your body gets cleansed and how "lighter" you feel as your excessive weight is being lost. I am full of energy now - and even more importantly I now know how and what to eat to maintain the wonderful effect of my fasting!
I am really happy I took a decision to test this fasting program in Opatija.

When I first heard of the fasting program in Budapest, I wanted to try it, but was afraid not to eat at all. However, self-persuasion is a great thing, and Doctors also helped me by explaining the details of the whole process and its little "tricks". Thus, I've decided to fast only tree days for the first time and the whole programe took me 6 days. I'm very happy now, it was not difficult, though it is very individual for everybody. I lost 5 kilos, cleaned my whole organism. I do recommend it for everybody, and look forward to fasting for 5 or even 7 days.

Hello! I have just run into this site while searching for a cleansing program in Europe and I am really impressed by the description of the fasting programme here. What I like here is that you provide a lot of services and also that I can combine improving my health condition and losing my weight with being in the nice environment and even doing sightseeing!
I would like to address the Doctors who are in charge of the fasting programme: do you develop special programme for clients? The thing is that after I gave a birth to a child a year ago I cannot really restrict myself in food and cannot lose weight :(. (Well, maybe you will teach me how to fast "correctly"...)

I never believed the results could be so outstanding…Few days agoI arrived back from Hungary, Budapest after a fasting and cleansing program, which took 10 days and I am feeling great. I thought that I will not survive with not receiving enough calories every day, but quite the contrary I felt very light and free. I can even tell that this program demonstrated “new me” to myself. Of course, you need to incline yourself for the fasting, as it is not very easy.
Besides the aspect that I lost 6 kg, there are a lot of other advantages of the fasting. I feel that my stomach works better now, and my skin became clearer and smoother. As well, I sleep much better now and my thoughts happened to get some clarity and this is very important. I loved the beauty of Budapest and their thermal baths, which are built on the natural hot springs.
If you ask, could I do that on my own? I guess I couldn’t, if even I knew exactly what to do. The support from the medical staff and program managers is crucial.
Would I do it again? Yes! I already plan to do it on a regular basis, like at least once a year. The next time I will try Croatia, the Adriatic Sea coast.
